Arthur Conan Doyle a fost un scriitor şi medic britanic, cunoscut în special pentru personajul său de fictiune maiestuos, detectivul Sherlock Holmes. Născut pe data de 22 mai 1859 în Edinburgh, Scoţia, Conan Doyle a studiat medicina la Universitatea din Edinburgh, înainte de a se stabili ca medic în Southsea, Marea Britanie.
