Ernest Hemingway a fost un scriitor american cunoscut pentru stilul său simplu și direct, precum și pentru povestirile sale despre război și vânătoare. S-a născut în anul 1899 în Oak Park, Illinois și a crescut într-o familie cu o adâncă iubire pentru lectură și scris. La vârsta de 17 ani, a început să scrie pentru ziarul local și a început să-și dezvolte stilul său unic.
În 1918, Hemingway a luat parte la Primul Război Mondial ca voluntar ambulant pentru Crucea Roșie Italiană. Aceste experiențe au influențat profund scriitura sa, fiind reflectate în multe dintre povestirile sale despre război. După război, Hemingway s-a mutat în Paris, unde a cunoscut un grup de scriitori cunoscuți sub numele de "Generația Pierdută".
