Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (născut pe data de 13 februarie in anul 1903, Liège, Belgia și decedat pe data de 4 septembrie in anul 1989, Lausanne, Elveția) a fost un scriitor belgian de romane politiste și romane tradiționale. El este cunoscut în special pentru personajul său de detectiv, inspectorul Maigret, care a apărut în 75 de romane și 28 de povestiri scurte. Simenon a scris în total peste 400 de romane și a vândut aproximativ 700 de milioane de exemplare în întreaga lume, fiind unul dintre cei mai vânduți autori din istorie.
