Informed by vivid research, this is a passionate novel about a little known aspect of WWI service. Lt Willy Fraser is a balloon observer, hanging under a gasbag filled with explosive hydrogen above the Ypres Salient. Swept across enemy lines, he is rescued by Belgian farmers who he grows close to before his escape.
